Life after death. There would hardly be a human being who has ever lived that hasn't wondered about the possibility. Indeed there are many people who believe that they have lived past lives. Those who have had what are commonly referred to as NDE's (Near Death Experiences) tell all sorts of stories about being attracted to "white light" and being "beckoned into the afterlife" by long dead relatives and friends. The ancient Egyptians embalmed Pharaohs and other important people and entombed them in sarcophaguses inside burial chambers. Along with the corpse were items that it was believed the entombed person would find useful in the afterlife. Did they know something that we still do not? All sorts of theories abound. Many have been popularized in movies such as "Ghost" and "Flatliners" and "The Sixth Sense." Of one thing we can be absolutely certain. We are here and the time is now. So it is paramount to make use of the time that we have because in the overall scheme of things that time is very short. During my life, like everybody else, I have lost people who have been near and dear to me. At various occasions I believe that I have received "directions" from some of these people. You may have experienced the same. I'm not going to detail those incidents here because they are intensely personal. However, I was inspired to write about this concept of life, death and the hereafter in a story I called "The Power of Choice." They say that there are only two things that are certain in life - death and taxes. So, when it is your turn to leave this earth, you should ensure that you have no regrets about what you achieved while you were here. How sad it would be to die with regrets of unfulfilled potential.
