I believe the reason we are all here is to learn to love ourselves. Deep within all of us is a place that feels alone and unloved. Love can heal anything. I believe we must begin with ourselves. How can we truly love others if we don't love ourselves? We cannot give what we do not have. In each moment we have a choice to make. We can continue with our learned responses of 'I should do this or that' OR we can silently ask our divine intelligence deep within 'What is thy will for me?'. Following the soft voice within your heart will always give loving support to your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. It will heal them and change your life. 1. The Tao of Breathing
One of the impressions I have gained recently in speaking to Zen friends about practice is a certain attitude towards breathing in zazen. For the sake of brevity, and just for fun, I wish to refer to it as 'samurai breathing'. I think it has its origins in the martial arts.
The 'samurai breath' goes like this: one must push down hard on the outgoing breath, concentrating on the hara (solar plexus) and in doing so, push aside any thoughts, feelings, sensations, that get in the way, smashing thro…
2. The Emptiness That Binds The Universe By Saleem Rana
What is the opportunity here? What is the benefit of this difficulty? What is the gift? ~ Marc AllenIt's strange--behind the terror and confusion of the world, behind the frustration of things not working out for us or anyone else, and behind the unending battles of struggle--there is an inner joy, a radiance that shines in the heart, an awareness that exists forever. One day, when we have all packed up our toys and gone home, we will look back on these days of earth as a marvelous adventure.I…
3. Mysticism, Dogma and Truth
At a recent lecture on Belief Systems, a student asked, 'Is mysticism a religion?'
Mysticism is a spiritual discipline aiming at direct communion with God or the ultimate truth. It is not a religion and, in fact, all religions have mystics. There are Christian mystics, Jewish mystics (Kabbalists), Islamic mystics (Sufis), Buddhist and Hindu mystics. Where all the tenets of these religions intersect is where you'll find the mystics.
Mystics also study universal laws, which, by definition, are alw…
4. You Lookin' At Me? By Vivian Gordon
It's human nature to point a finger when we think someone
else is guilty of something but yet we don't stop to consider
that we too may be guilty of the very same thing we are
accusing others of. Why is it so easy to turn a blind eye and
overlook our own faults and yet so easy to see these faults
in someone else? For some reason, we take pleasure in
judging, condemning and criticizing others. Does it take the
spotlight off us in drawing attention to someone else?As I already mentioned…
