Sometimes, life hands us a beautiful lesson within just one short experience. The other day, I left my house and drove through my neighborhood, only to end up at my least favorite intersection just as the light was turning red. This particular stop light greatly favors the traffic on the main street and seems to take a small eternity to turn green when approached from my direction.

Thinking myself such a clever girl, I decided to detour down another side street. I figured I could circle around to the main street and approach the same intersection from the other direction while the light was still green.

Wouldn’t you know it, but just as I approached the intersection, the light turned red for the main street traffic. I had to laugh as I sat at that red light, watching the traffic pull out of my side street. I knew if I had just waited patiently, I’d be cruising along already.

That’s the thing about perfect timing. When the time is not quite right for us to “get on the road” towards our goals, we can do one of two things. We can sit patiently at the red light and make the most of our time there. We can enjoy listening to the radio. We can even take care of a few details, like putting on lipstick or checking the voice mail on our cell phone. Or we can spin our wheels on a useless detour, wasting gas and energy, only to realize that, after all that effort, the red light is still in front of us.

The next time you encounter a stop light in your life, consider that perhaps the timing is not quite right yet. Perhaps you’ve already taken a few detours of your own, only to end up stuck at the same crossroads. Take a deep breath, and try just enjoying where you are right now. The time for forward movement has perhaps simply not yet come. Gather your resources and do what you can to be productive.

Just like at an intersection, when it is your turn to go, there will be a shift in the flow of traffic. The way for you to move forward will suddenly become free of other vehicles, free of obstacles. But until the light turns in your favor, trust that you are in that perfect place before the next step. When you do proceed, it will be with perfect timing!

1. The Purpose of Life, Told by an Agnostic By Lance Winslow
Talked to an interesting person today at a coffee shop, after about 10 minutes or so told me he was an atheist. Which is interesting and lends it self as to why we were having this particular conversation about "THE MEANING OF LIFE”.Having studied the thought process of those who are atheists along with the reasoning differences between world religions, multiple or one god scenarios, Eastern and Western Philosophy it was perhaps good for him to discuss these issues with me rather than some who…

2. Trailing Clouds of Glory By Teresa Proudlove
Most of us are familiar with the inner criticism and gnawing self-doubt we hear when we want to take the next step in our work or life. Rather than staying stymied we can observe our thoughts, let them go and return to the truth of who we really are. William Wordsworth reminds us of our one true home:Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting; The soul that rises with us, our life’s star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter na…

3. I'll Be Dammed By Vivian Gordon
A stagnant body of water contains poisons and toxins that can bring certain death. It's natural to say you would not drink from it. But what a beautiful sight to see a sparkling, pristine body of water that flows freely. It gives life, it's refreshing and most of all it's essential to survival. One of the most beautiful displays of this is a free flowing water fall. Have you ever wondered where all that water comes from? It's a never ending source as it continues to feed other bodies o…

4. Your Definition of God Defines You By Tina Montalto
What you think God is colors every thought and belief you have. This is true even for people who don’t believe in God or a Spiritual Supreme Being because no one is exempt from the Law of the Universe. The Science of Mind and New Thought definition of God is not what most of us grew up believing or at least what we were told. But the greater our definition of God/Spirit, the greater and more powerful our connection to it and ourselves. It is a basic principle that we must embody if we are to us…
