What is sickness? What is disease? Why are both of these ailments extremely prevalent in a society that is more technologically advanced than ever before? In an age where man can build super scud missiles, devastating nuclear war heads, and can build space rovers that can roll on the planet Mars thousands and thousands of miles away, why has there not been a cure for the common cold? Why has sickness and disease remained an issue since biblical times?

The definition for sickness is to be in a disordered, weakened, or unsound condition. In other words, when one is sick, there is something that is within that individual that is out of alignment, lacking strength, and the internal infrastructure is fragile.

Disease is defined as a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning. Disease is also defined as a harmful development.

Without question, our bodies are not built to resist sickness and disease. So what is the key to winning the battle of health and strength?

Well, the answer to these questions are definitely in the bible. But before we go any further, there is one thing that needs to be stately clearly.

Hosea 4:6 reads “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou has rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

We are susceptible to sickness and disease because we do not prepare ourselves to battle against them. To be equipped to fight sickness and disease, we must obtain the knowledge of how to defend ourselves, and this knowledge is found in the Word of God. Sickness and disease, just like spiritual ailments such as anger, violence and immorality, can lead to spiritual and physical enslavement. There are three derivatives of spiritual enslavement that we must conquer in order to rebuke and repel sickness and disease - Bondage, Oppression, and Curses.

Bondage is the servitude or subjugation to a controlling person or force. Just like a man being in bondage through drug abuse or fornication, man can be in bondage, or under control of sickness and disease in the same manner. Is it a coincidence that some people are more susceptible to sickness and disease than others? I think not. Lacking the understanding that we have been set free from sickness and disease by the mighty work that Jesus Christ did on the cross, we will continue to live life with a slave’s mentality, freedom being hidden from our eyes through our lack of knowledge and understanding of God’s Word.

Isaiah 53:5 reads “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

The lashes on Jesus’ body represent all sickness and disease. We don’t have to accept sickness and disease because we were pre-destined to be healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ. The important part of the verse is the present tense statement “we are healed.” Healing is not a phenomena that happened when Jesus walked on earth, but it is a phenomena for today, this hour and this very second.

Not only is sickness and disease a form of bondage, but it is also a form of oppression. Oppression is the unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power and a sense of being weighed down in the body or mind.

Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Oppression needs healing. Oppression can also act as a disease. It is the power of God through the anointing of the Holy Spirit that destroys the yoke of oppression. In Matthew 11:30, Jesus states “my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” It is the light yoke of Jesus Christ that we must take on, in exchange for the heavy burden of oppression that can weigh us down physically or mentally.

Beyond being in bondage and oppression, sickness and disease are also curses. Curses are caused by disobedience of the law of God, His commandments and His will. Our disobedience creates a spiritual breach in which the enemy, the devil, can step in and throw his darts of sickness and disease at our bodies without resistance. There is no resistance against the devil because God lifts His hand and anointing from us when we are disobedient.

Deuteronomy 28:61
Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

In Deuteronomy 28, God specifically lays out the game plan for blessings and curses. The blessings and curses hinge upon our obedience, or disobedience of God’s Word. We can defeat and rebuke curses that are knocking at our door by maintaining a good standard of obedience to the Word of God.

For so long have the people of God fallen in the hands of religious tradition that teaches sickness and disease are part of life, and that they come and go as they please. This false teaching is a total lie and it derived straight from the pits of hell. Satan does not want us to understand the power that we have over sickness and disease. Honestly, he has done a good job using false teaching to keep us bound, oppressed and cursed.

Let us all rise up, stand on the Word of God, the Word of Truth, and rebuke the devourer and his plans of bringing sickness and disease into our lives. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty! Therefore, we are free from every trap and snare that Satan tries to set up for us, including sickness and disease!

My name is Had. You may know me, but you may not know my new name. You may have no idea what I ‘ve been through because I do my best to look the same. I am scared to death of you. I use to be just like you. I once held my head up high without propping in on my hymnal. I was well respected back then, and I even respected myself. I was whole-hearted devoted to God, and if the truth be known, somewhere deep inside I was sometimes the slightest bit proud of my devotion. Then I’d repent because…

3. True Justice and Freedom By Lynn Bradley
The world’s idea of justice and freedom fall short of their purpose. Prison bars keep the guilty from repeating their crime while behind them. They cannot change the person. Freedom comes with a price. We have to take responsibility for our actions. We are never free from the tensions of living on the earth. We must pay the price of making a living and existing among people of different temperaments and cultures. Being in Christ is the perfect answer because he has already paid the price for …
